Blue Skies For Black Hearts
Love Is Not Enough (CD/LP)

Synopses

The disintegration of long-term relationships can provide great inspiration for songwriting, as evidenced here.  After completing Turn the Light Out Pat Kearns' world was turned upside down as his complicated relationship with long-time girlfriend/keyboardist Ratch Aronica and drummer Jean-Paul Ramos quickly disintegrated into an ugly miasma. Yet out of that chaos would come what is undeniably the best sogwriting work of Pat Kearns' life.  Featuring an impressive cast of characters, including Colin Jarrell, Alan Mansfield and Gabe Lageson of The Nice Boys, Michael Lewis and Kelly Simmons, the remaining members of Blue Skies, long time friend and session keyboardist Mark Brietenbach, and the newly relocated drumming extraordinaire and accomplished studio engineer Matt Morgan (The Rutabega, Daytime Volume), Love Is Not Enough is truly an indie rock masterpeice. The album, still has all the unforgettable melodies and instrumental hooks that Blue Skies For Black Hearts is known and loved for. It is at once reminiscent of work by 60s music luminaries, while still remaining pertinent to today. It captures the painful and poignant moments of sudden end of love, the loss of a friend and the ensuing emotional wasteland. It is dark, sorrowful, and at times even angry, yet does not succumb to despair, but rather hints and whispers at an impending sense of hope. It is truly an album for black hearts, without losing the promise of blue skies to come.
